Attach of the Clones...... and other bioanalytical sensors
Prof. Lisa Hall
Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge
This seminar will visit some of the most "salubrious" research sites on earth (and beyond) to discover how
sometimes simple scientific principles can be developed to solve everyday detection problems. The seminar
will also explore the science behind the glucose oxidase biosensor and how lessons that have been learned in
making this sensor for an enormous world market in monitoring for diabetes can be transferred to other
enzyme systems. The presentation will discover that methods in genetic engineering are useful in making hybrid bioelectronic enzyme components, that can be switched on and off by the operator.
