A discussion meeting on Discrete Dislocation Plasticity

Thursday 1 July - Friday 2 July, 2004
University of Cambridge,
Department of Engineering
Cambridge CB2 1PZ, UK

Scope of the Workshop

Understanding the fundamentals of plastic deformation is a longstanding challenge that has recently undergone a revival through the emergence of new experimental techniques at small scales as well as new theoretical and computational methods. One such computational approach is discrete dislocation plasticity that has demonstrated potential to shed new light into the fundamentals of plastic deformation.

The field has now reached some level of maturity and the workshop aims to bring together a small group of researchers active in the field in order to:
  1. Review the current state of art in the field of computational discrete dislocation modelling and make contact with the existing dislocation literature
  2. Motivate continuum models with an emphasis on homogenisation schemes that describe an evolving microstructure
  3. Discuss future directions, identify priorities and share ideas on methods
The format of the meeting will be a limited number of lectures by the invited speakers with adequate time kept for discussion.

Dates & Location

The meeting will take place on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of July 2004, at the Engineering Department, Cambridge University.
