The Consortium Partners: Cambridge University Engineering Department (CUED)

Cambridge University Engineering Department is a unified Engineering Department with about 150 faculties in 6 Divisions, with a number of special facilities:
  1. A team of Design Engineers in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with extensive workshops for fabrication of mechanical and electrical components, including pneumatics and smart materials. The main workshops are equipped to the highest standard with about 50 full time technicians.
  2. Cambridge Centre for Micromechanics (CCM), is an inter-departmental research facility between Engineering, Materials Science, and Applied Mathematics and Physics. The CCM has a dedicated SGI Origin 2000 workstation, backed by the University 256 node SGI machine.
  3. Materials test facilities and an SEM with in-situ loading stage are available for use in the current project.

In the HYMM project, CUED's role is the selection and development of smart materials (piezo-active, MSAs, electrostrictive polymers, and adaptive structures).
